How to place trades on the Wrap platform

Follow these steps to buy, sell or switch investments for your client on Wrap.

Before you start

Have the following information ready:

  • Order type: one-off or standing
  • Start date: required for every trade
  • For standing buy or sell orders: frequency and, if needed, an end date

Check existing standing sells

If your client has an existing standing sell and you are changing their investment strategy, cancel it before setting up a new standing sell instruction.

Place the trade

Step 1

Select Quick actions next to the product you want to trade.

Or go to Dynamic menu > Product actions, select the product, then select Trading.

Step 2

Select Buy, Sell or Switch.

If you used the Dynamic menu route, select the required action from Choose trade action

Step 4

Set up the order

For every trade, complete:

  • Order Type (one-off or standing )
  • Start Date

For standing buy and sell deals, also complete:

  • Frequency — monthly, quarterly or yearly
  • End date — if you choose an exact date, make sure it is at least 5 working days after the last trade.

Protected assets

A sell or switch instruction includes protected assets. Any protected assets are shown on screen for your information only.

Step 5

Review and confirm the trade

Complete the relevant fields, then proceed to review the trade. Continue to confirmation to place it.

Timescales

Aberdeen aggregates deals placed in a fund and sends the fund manager one instruction. This is known as pooling. Pooling timescales vary - it may happen the night before or as little as 15 minutes before.

Authorised Your request is submitted. You can still cancel at this point.
Pooled Deals are aggregated and final checks carried out. You can no longer cancel.
Placed The request is with the fund manager, awaiting price confirmation.
Settled Price confirmation has been received from the fund manager.
Completed The deal can still take 2–3 working days to fully settle.

View the trade status at Dynamic menu > Orders >Deals/Switches

Settlement timescales
Mutual funds Date placed + 4 working days
Insured funds Date placed +2 working days

For Mutual Funds, you can see the settlement date on the contract notes.

Risk warning

The value of investments can go down as well as up, and the investor could get back less than was paid in. Laws and tax rules may change in the future. Personal circumstances and where the investor lives in the UK will also have an impact on tax treatment.
